Requirements
Our CTE program offers limited seats for both the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program and the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program. Near the end of a students Junior year (11th grade) they will be given a preference sheet asking for the following items:
- Endorsement from their teachers
- A written statement giving any background information they'd like to divulge to our CTE team.
- Notation of which program they'd like to enroll in.
- Student certification that they will meet the age requirements for taking the CNA or EMT state examination in May of their Senior year.
After the due date for the preference sheets our Career and Technical Education team meets to discuss the incoming candidates. Each year we have 24 seats for our CNA program and 40 seats for our EMT program. When determining student eligibility into the program, the CTE team takes into consideration the students overall grades, teacher recommendations, students success in Health Core I and Health Core II, and overall attendance.
Students will be notified in the summer prior to their Senior year about acceptance into the CTE program. Students who are not able to be placed in the CNA program may find placement in our Pre-CNA program that offers the same course content and skills with the exception of clinical hours at the VA.
